I Survived!

Howdy Peeps!

Sorry I haven’t posted much recently but it’s been kinda crazy!

I started a full-time special needs teaching job almost 4 weeks ago, submitted my Master’s dissertation last weekend and have had the usual things like daughter back at college (already had a sick day too 🤢)and the usual stuff that comes with a house and family.

I have to stop here and say thank you to Mr.B as these last couple of weeks he has put laundry going and vacuumed and run errands (he is still working from home because of the whole covid thing)… couldn’t do it without you ❤

The first week or 2 I literally went work all week (with 1hr 20 commute each side), cooked and slept… then messed around with my dissertation all weekend…. my family have been very tolerant.

I got to the point about a week ago where I told the hubby I wasn’t sure i could do it, but since then I’ve felt much better and less sleepy.

So I thought I’d share what I’ve learned while working 11/12-hour days.

  • This one was my mum’s advice (thanks mum): get at least 5 work outfits so you don’t have to worry about midweek laundry. In fact, I have a 6th outfit and spare leggings/shoes in the car… because I work with children…
  • Plan your meals (and have a frozen back up or 2 for when plans change)… also we invested in a multi-tier steamer for quick and healthy food…it’s brilliant (you can get this one on Amazon https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B079T6XVG3/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fab_JsTBFb87JCACN )
  • Do stuff in advance: preparing lessons, putting fuel in the car and ironing clothes the night before is better than on the day. I also bought and posted birthday cards etc the weekend before for all that week.
  • Speaking of the car, check it over at weekends (tyres, oil, wash etc) and make sure there’s useful stuff in it… i have wellies and a coat in mine, my breakdown cover details, painkillers, a spare mask 😷 and a bottle each of oil and water in the back in case I need a top up.
  • Write it down: planner/calendar/diary/notebook/post-its whatever works, or you will forget something!
  • Take supplies to work: teabags, uht milk and snacks it will save you from starvation and insanity… being the only person in the building with milk is also a quick way to make friends with your new colleagues! 😁
  • Limit the other stuff: if it’s not urgent, leave it for your day off (or longer if you can). Get settled then deal with other things.

Hope you’re all ok? Look after yourselves, especially if you just started a new job or are about to!

God bless,

Anna x
