New Year’s PMA

Morning Peeps!

Thought I’d share with you a positive way of facing New Year’s resolutions:

I could moan and grumble that I didn’t get my ebook finished or that I was 6lb short of my weight loss goal for 2017, but instead, I choose to focus on the positives of the year (see Wednesday’s post 2017). I did start my ebook and lose some weight so that gives me a head start on 2018.

Find something to inspire you… My motivation for weight loss for 2018 will most definitely be that my gorgeous cousin is getting married in September and I will need a new dress 🙂

I have other little goals and projects planned, but if I tell you them all now there’ll be no surprises in the new year! 😉

Psychologists and Therapists often work with SMART goal setting, if you don’t know what that is let me see if I can explain it to you:

S is for Specific: “I want to lose weight” could be 1lb or 50… pick a number because vague isn’t motivating.

M is for Measurable: It has to be something you can see happening… pounds going down, the number of books read going up… keep a record.

A is for Attainable: Look at the holistic picture, if you want to lose weight but are stress-eating because of a project at work maybe ditch the project or wait until it finishes….there’s a difference between procrastinating and prioritising, sometimes you need to focus on removing an obstacle before starting.

R is for Realistic: We’d all like to wake up 3 sizes smaller tomorrow, but setting yourself up for failure will demotivate you in future attempts. 25lbs in a week is not possible, but it is perfectly reasonable over a couple of months.

T is for Time-bound: Find a deadline….saying I want to lose 2 stone may mean you can start in October! But saying “I will lose 2 stone by Easter” gives you a time frame… then you can break it down into smaller, more manageable goals…this motivates you along the way. For example, 2 stone by Easter is about 2lb per week, so each week you reach that 2lb loss you will be motivated to reach the next.

I hope that helps with whatever your goals are for 2018, and remember; While there’s breath in our bodies, it’s never too late for anything!

Have a good one 🙂
